Have you always wondered what healthy eating really involves? Do you take the time to prep your breakfast, lunch and dinner? If you do, kudos to you, because many of us do not have that kind of discipline. If you are anything like me, I eat healthy most of the time, but not all the time and I do not plan my daily meals very well, other than dinner.
I like (okay, actually I really LOVE) my 16-oz white mocha with whipped cream in the morning. And, I have eaten my kids left-over donut after dropping them off at school. Now I know that is not the best way to start out the morning, and I can tell you that I also take the kids to fast-food drive throughs on occasion. I know it is doesn't sound like I'm off to a great start for "healthy" eating does it? But, I do know that when I'm not doing these white mocha, donut and fast-food runs, that I tend to feel better when I eat what I consider "healthy". I don't measure or weigh anything and have been fortunate to get my mom's skinny genes (thanks mom) but I do watch my portions. I look forward to my breakfast of yogurt with granola or oatmeal in the morning, or on busy days, my protein bars. I also tend to do better if I take a protein bar with me for my snack and/or lunch. I save my best eating for dinner - my favorite time of the day. I go light on the carbs and heavy on the protein and vegetables.
So, the question remains, what is healthy eating to you? Is it eating six meals a day, or nothing all day until dinner? I think we all know that we should eat smaller, more frequent meals during the day. There are so many diets, pills, and meal plans that you can choose. I think it is up to you on what you want, how you feel, and the results you are looking for. Healthy eating depends on many factors and you also have to throw in exercise. Without a healthy meal and good exercise, we simply do not function well. I have good days and bad days - when I skip either of these essentials, I am off my routine and don't feel as strong, physically or mentally.
What did you eat today? Were you choices good ones? Let me start - my breakfast today included a protein bar, and yes - my beloved white mocha with whipped cream. For lunch, I will have another protein bar - and for my snack, probably a banana. Does that sound healthy? It might not sound good to you, but stay tuned for my next blog where I can link you to some sites that you can look at to help you decide what it healthy for you and look at some startling statistics on the way we eat and how it affects u.
